The Green Department at The Union League Golf Club at Torresadale is seeking a turf professional whom is passionate, career driven, self motivated, detail oriented and takes pride in preparing a championship caliber golf course for its members and guests. The Union League of Philadelphia, ranked the #1 City Club in the country 5 years and counting, purchased Torresdale in 2014, making it the first full service country club within its portfolio. Most recently, the Club expanded its private golf club portfolio with the acquisition of Union League National Golf Club located at the Jersey Shore. Each facility provides a unique member golf experience from a classic Donald Ross design to an impressive design currently under renovation by Fry/ Straka Global Golf Course Design. Similarly, the maintenance of each property is quite unique with varying soil types and turf species. While this opportunity is currently open at Torresdale, the opportunity to gain experience at both properties is anticipated. Whether it may be project related, an agronomic process or a Member Guest tournament, the 2nd Assistant will work closely with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendents and other management team members to develop short and long term goals and plans to be completed within the operations. Problem solving and providing solutions to challenges that the team faces will also be a responsibility. The 2nd Assistant ensures the proper training and evaluation of their staff in order to deliver the best possible member experience. The 2nd Assistant must possess a strong knowledge base for the daily maintenance of a golf course including, but not limited to hand watering, operating and troubleshooting of an automatic irrigation system, pesticide and fertilizer applications, record keeping, IPM measures, equipment operation and golf course set up. Both facilities have an extensive list of capital improvement plans on the docket including, but not limited to a 25 acre par 3 course, state-of-the-art maintenance facilities, driving range and short game facilities, complete replacement of an irrigation system and many more Master Plan improvement projects. High School Diploma with certificate or degree in Turfgrass Science or comparable program
1-3 years of progressive experience in the turfgrass maintenance industry
Self motivated, positive attitude, willingness to exceed member expectations, work every other weekend April - November and some holidays, obtain and maintain PA Applicator's License within 90 days of hire, undergo criminal background check and drug screening
